The California Fraternal Order of Police oversees 32 local lodges with nearly 20,000 members. We are the voice of those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities. The first Emerald Society was formed in 1953 by Irish-American police officers of the New York City Police Department. The New York City Police Department Emerald Society was formed to help foster the spirit of Irish heritage within its members and to promote and preserve their accomplishments.
Today there are approximately 88 Law Enforcement Emerald Society’s nationwide most of which are members of the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies.
